
Joel Schneier, Ph.D.
Biography
Dr. Joel Schneier is a Lecturer in the Department of Writing & Rhetoric (DWR) at the University of Central Florida. He earned a Ph.D. from the Communication, Rhetoric, & Digital Media program at North Carolina State University.
Dr. Schneier's research investigates questions at the intersection of mobile communication, writing, and sociolinguistics, with a focus on process-based and computational methods for empirically studying how individuals meaningfully communicate with others through mobile technology. His recent research has included keystroke-logging analysis on mobile devices to study writing processes during text messaging, a microethology of collaborative gameplay in mobile Minecraft, a usability study of BigDIVA.org, and longitudinal study of non-native English speakers' writing experiences in undergrad. His research has been published in New Media & Society, Mobile Media & Communication, and Digital Humanities Quarterly.
Dr. Schneier's teaching experience has included classes in First-Year Composition, Writing Studies, Professional Writing, Linguistics, and Science Technology & Society.
